The City of London is at the heart of the world’s financial markets. It is an area that covers just over one square mile and is home to a unique concentration of international expertise, professional services and capital. Businesses within the ‘Square Mile’ traditionally have a strong history of supporting both charitable and good causes. ‘The Green Square Mile’ has been established by Ibex Earth to galvanise corporate organisations into channelling this support and good will into meaningful conservation projects that help to protect some of the world’s most threatened habitat, vulnerable ecosystems and endangered species – whilst simultaneously promoting the importance of running and maintaining a sustainable business practice. Working in collaboration with the WWF, the World Land Trust, the Zoological Society of London’s EDGE of Existence Programme and the Gaia Foundation, ‘The Green Square Mile’ will aim to raise at least one million pounds on an annual basis to donate to a series of conservation projects the initiative supports. In return participating organisations will be invited to attend a regular series of talks, seminars and networking events that are geared towards helping them become more sustainable and resource efficient. Organisations will also benefit from an innovative staff engagement programme, which will include fundraising events and the use of digital media (apps for tablets and iPads, video-casts, interviews etc) to provide updates from each of the conservation projects. |
