Labels, labels, labels PDF Print E-mail

If you are interested in making a low-carbon choice for your future electrical device purchases then keep your eyes open for the following labels on products:

EU Energy Label: This label is now a legally required to appear on a variety of home appliances, such as light bulbs or air conditioners. The label rates the products in terms of energy efficiency – A (efficient) through to G (inefficient).

Energy Efficiency Recommendation: The UK label is only used by the most energy efficient products and therefore showcases the best performers within the EU Energy Label rating systems.

EU Ecolabel:  Not often seen in the UK, the EU Ecolabel is placed on products that pass numerous environmental criteria that take into consideration (i) energy efficiency (ii) expected lifespan and (iii) ease of disposal.

Whilst on the subject of labels for the home…when looking to choose furniture, DIY materials and paper based products make sure they are purchased from sustainably-produced wood – look out for labels from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).
