Many utility companies now allow you to specifically choose whether all or some of your power is generated from renewable sources, e.g. wind farms or tidal energy. These are generally known as green tariffs and the more people choosing this option will put further pressure on utility companies to invest in renewable technologies.

(Do note that signing up to a green tariff does not necessarily mean that you are getting the electricity directly from the renewable source, but the power company in question commits to put the amount of energy you use on the grid from a renewable source).
