Conserve me aims to educate young people about worldwide environmental and wildlife conservation pressures, and to raise awareness of the value of biodiversity to all of us. We hope to improve understanding by illustrating the importance of scientific research in developing a sustainable future for a diverse range of species and ecosystems.
Current environmental concerns, such as climate change and declining biodiversity are now dominating the media across the world. It is therefore important to provide a platform for young people, specifically secondary school aged children, to inspire them to learn about these issues, make them aware of how they can help make a difference and provide them with a voice to air their views and opinions. Our dedicated website aims to enhance their knowledge in wildlife conservation through interactive engagement. Alongside the website, we have a six week schools programme to increase participation in the classroom on these issues and allow young people to gain practical experience through active involvement in scientific field experiments in the UK. It is hoped this will encourage greater uptake of science disciplines at A-level and beyond. The long term goal of Conserve me is to ensure environmental and conservation biology is a core element of the UK’s National Curriculum, because the fate of our global biodiversity depends on enthusing the next generation now. |
